Creating Access for Every Artist
Support the Art Department in Expanding Student Opportunities
In the Art Department, we believe that arts education should be accessible to all, and we're committed to providing the resources that help every student thrive. Studying ceramics offers students a unique blend of artistic and technical skills, preparing students for careers as studio artists, teachers, potters, ceramics technicians, art therapists, and designers. The collaborative nature of ceramics also fosters a strong sense of community among students, which is especially evident during our biannual woodfiring events. Over three days, students work around the clock together, tending the kiln in shifts, a process that enables students to build lasting friendships through this shared artistic experience.
Currently, we do not have an accessible pottery wheel in our popular ceramics program; this is a significant barrier for students with disabilities. Our existing equipment lacks adjustable seat and height options, making it difficult or impossible for students in wheelchairs to use, and potentially causing neck and back pain for those with differing abilities.
Purchasing an accessible pottery wheel will allow all students, regardless of physical ability, to fully participate in our ceramics community and empower them to realize their artistic potential in the ceramic medium. With the right tools, all students interested in ceramics can focus on what matters most: developing their technical expertise and expressing their creative ideas.
Please consider making a donation to the Art Department today. Gifts to this fund will support the academic programs and needs of the Art Department, such as an accessible pottery wheel.
Your contribution will allow us to create a more inclusive and inspiring learning environment that helps cultivate the talents of all our students. Thank you for your generosity and for helping us create a space where every student artist can thrive.
