Help students become career ready!

Support Student Experiential Learning Background Checks with the Community Engagement Center (CEC) at Sacramento State. The CEC is a vital hub that connects academic learning with real-world impact by facilitating service learning and academic internship opportunities for students across all disciplines.

Through partnerships with approximately 1,000 nonprofits, schools, businesses, and government agencies, the CEC empowers students to apply classroom knowledge to pressing community challenges while gaining invaluable professional experience, leadership skills, and a deepened sense of civic responsibility. These experiences build student strengths, as they apply course material to hands-on learning and prepare for their careers. Data shows that students who participate in experiential learning have significantly higher retention and graduation rates than those who do not. In addition, evaluation of Sacramento State’s experiential learning programs indicates that 95% of students learn how to apply concepts from their course/major to real-life situations and 94% of students better understand the role of professionals in their field.

Your support helps the Community Engagement Center cover potential student expenses related to experiential learning, along with other program needs that make these opportunities possible. This may include costs such as background checks and clearances—like Livescan fingerprinting or physical exams—required by some agencies for academic internships.

Unfortunately, these costs — up to $98 per student — can be a significant barrier, especially for first-generation, low-income, and working students. These are the very students who benefit the most from hands-on learning in real-world settings — but too often, they’re forced to opt out due to financial constraints. With your help, we can ensure that all students regardless of financial background have equitable access to experiential learning opportunities that prepare them for meaningful careers. Our goal is to cover the background checks of at least 81 students.

Invest in a future where learning doesn't stop at the classroom door!

Thank you for supporting experiential education that will transform students and communities alike.
